Members of the Motor Trades Association of the ACT (MTA ACT) recently met with Mr David Smith MP, Member for Bean and Government Whip, at Parliament House to discuss key issues impacting the automotive industry in the Canberra region.
The roundtable discussion was both constructive and wide-ranging, with members raising concerns around skills shortages, apprenticeship pathways, and the rising cost of doing business. The meeting underscored MTA ACT’s ongoing commitment to representing and supporting local automotive businesses, while ensuring the challenges faced by the sector are recognised at a Federal Government level.
“It’s vital that the voices of our members are heard by decision-makers. These discussions allow us to highlight the contribution our industry makes to Canberra’s economy and workforce, while advocating for practical solutions to the issues our businesses face,” said Collin Jennings, Head of Government Relations & Advocacy at MTA ACT.
In addition to the meeting with Mr Smith, MTA ACT continues to build strong relationships across the ACT Government to advance the interests of the automotive industry.
- Collin Jennings, representing MTA ACT, also met with Shane Rattenbury MLA, Leader of the ACT Greens, to continue the Association’s engagement with members of the Legislative Assembly.
- Further meetings were also held with ACT Government directorates to discuss current issues and explore opportunities for future policy development leading into 2026.
Through these ongoing discussions, MTA ACT remains a staunch advocate for automotive businesses, working to ensure the industry’s priorities are understood and supported across all levels of government.
